The idea for the ‘Favourite Courses’ series came to me when driving back from a wonderful day’s golf at Swinley Forest. Technically it probably wasn’t the best course I’d ever played, but it was definitely one of the courses that I had most enjoyed playing. That got me thinking - rather than ask people what they thought the ‘best’ ten courses in the world were, and receive a lot of very predictable responses, why not ask for their favourites? Those that get their juices flowing, the ones that they can’t but help smile when thinking about.
I sent a Direct Message on Twitter to PGA Tour player Zac Blair - a man who loves his golf course architecture - and to my delight he replied with his thoughts straight away. That emboldened me to reach out to some of the people who I admired most in the game, and I am delighted to be able to share their selections here.
You will see some themes coming through (although maybe that’s partly because of who I asked) - links courses dominate, beauty trumps beast and walking courses abound.
As for my list, I have a trip to Australia coming up and will wait until I’ve seen the best that country has to offer before deciding on my top 10 - I’ve heard it will save me having to edit my list when I return!
Enjoy browsing - and a huge thanks to all who have contributed.
