I am delighted to be able to offer the opportunity to play the amazing Ardfin course on the Isle of Jura. The course has been described as one of the very best courses built anywhere in the world for generations. It’s a breathtaking course, in a phenomenal setting. You can see my full review, with walkthrough video, here.

Normally, the only way to play the course is by staying on-site. But the owner, Greg Coffey, has very generously given over the course for the day to raise money for a charity close to my heart - Kipawa Trust International. This is the first time the course has been opened to members of the public in this way.

Kipawa is a Scottish-based charity providing feeding programmes and other health and social services for children and families living in poverty in Ruiru, Kenya. Some very good friends of mine set up the charity more than 10 years ago, and my wife, Clare, is a trustee.

We are absolutely thrilled that Greg has agreed for Ardfin to host this very special day. Thanks to them donating the course for free, every penny of profit we make on the day will go directly to help children and families in Kenya.

WHEN IS THE ARDFIN GOLF DAY?

The UK Golf Guy Charity Day in aid of Kipawa will take place on Saturday October 1st. Tee times will be between 8:30 and 12 noon.

WHAT IS THE FORMAT?

The event will be a better-ball stableford, in teams of two. There will also be the opportunity to enter the longest drive and nearest the pin competitions - all to raise money for Kipawa. As the hotel at Ardfin will be closed on this day, check-in will be at the nearby Jura Hotel.

WHAT IS THE ENTRY FEE?

The entry fee is £700 for a team of two people (i.e. £350 a person).

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE FEE?

The entry fee includes the following -

  • A breakfast roll at The Jura Hotel

  • A welcome gift

  • 18 holes of golf (prizes for the top 2 teams)

  • Light snack and a drink in the Boathouse after the 11th hole (the site of KLF’s famous million £ burning stunt!)

  • A light meal and prizegiving following your round at The Jura Hotel. NB the prize giving may need to be a virtual one if people have to get back for their ferry but prizes will be sent on!

HOW DO I GET THERE?!

While it takes a bit of work to get to Jura, it’s not as hard as you may think! But it does take a little planning.

The first part of the journey is to get to Islay. You have two options:

  1. FLY. There are direct flights, twice a day, from Glasgow with Loganair. Flights take 45 minutes. I would recommend you then hire a car from www.islaycarhire.com

  2. DRIVE. There is a car ferry several times a day to Islay from Kennacraig, near Tarbert. Kennacraig is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Glasgow. The ferry then takes about 2 hours to get to Islay. There are two ports on the island and the ferry alternates between them. Port Askaig is closer to Jura, Port Ellen closer to The Machrie. They are about 30 minutes drive apart. I would advise booking as soon as you have confirmed your place in the event - the timetable is here.

Then you need to get from Islay to Jura.

It’s a very short car ferry journey between Islay and Jura. The first crossing is at 7:30 and the last return journey is at 18:30. You can’t book the ferry in advance but turn up and they’ll get you across. The journey takes only 5/10 minutes.

From where the ferry drops you off it’s about a 15/20 minute drive to The Jura Hotel where we will be meeting.

We anticipate many competitiors will stay on Islay. You can then take the ferry to Jura on Saturday morning and return to Islay on the 18:30 ferry in the evening.

WHERE CAN I STAY?

JURA

We have booked out all 16 rooms in The Jura Hotel for the Friday and Saturday nights. There will be no accommodation available onsite at Ardfin during the event as they will have closed for the season. If you would like to book one of the rooms at The Jura Hotel (on a first come first served basis) please email me at david@ukgolfguy.com and I will coordinate this.

ISLAY

There are many more accommodation options in Islay. The Machrie is an excellent hotel with a highly ranked golf course attached. You could base yourself there, enjoy a game, and then travel over to Jura for the day..

There are also several other hotels, B&Bs and Airbnbs in Islay which should provide something to suit most budgets. You will find these options on booking.com, Airbnb, or the hotel booking site of your choice!

HOW DO I BOOK?

To book your place just click on this link. Due to the proximity to the event, all payments are non refundable.

Please only select one ticket as each ticket is for 2 people!!

I will be in contact nearer the time to confirm tee times and ensure they work with your travel plans.

If you have any questions feel free to message me on david@ukgolfguy.com

HOW DO I MAKE A DONATION?

If you are unable to come but would like to donate anyway then thank you! You can make a donation here.
