THE WEST OF IRELAND - June 2026

I've been excited about launching this trip for some time now! Many people are familiar with the courses of Northern Ireland, or the South West of Ireland, but far fewer know the west coast of the country as well.

Recent visits by the likes of No Laying Up and Tom Coyne have started to spread the word about the quality of golf on the Wild Atlantic Way but still relatively few have visited.

Golf here is a little rawer at times than it is in the tourist hotspots you will find elsewhere in the country. You are far more likely to being playing alongside locals at the courses - most of which predominantly cater for their members - than busloads of overseas visitors.

This hospitality here is fantastic - expect to hear plenty of live music, consume plenty of pints of Guinness if that's your thing, and eat well.

In a time of increasing green fees and hospitality costs across much of the UK and Ireland, this trip offers good value and some truly wonderful golf. I hope you can join me in Summer 2026 for something special!

You can see the full itinerary HERE but the highlights are below -

SUNDAY 7TH JUNE 2026

We will meet in Dublin airport and leave by 10am.

It is around 4 hours to the West Coast so for those arriving on transatlantic flights it will be a good opportunity to catch up on a little more sleep before our first round.

We will play nine holes this afternoon at Mulranny. Today is really an opportunity to hit a few balls and stretch the legs, but the course will be sure to delight!

Mulranny Golf Links is a wonderful nine-hole course set on the shores of Clew Bay in Mulranny Co Mayo. It was founded in 1896 and golf has been played on this spectacular natural links course ever since.

After the round we will drive to the 4 star Talbot Hotel in Belmullet where we will stay for the next two nights. We will have a group meal together this evening in the hotel.

MONDAY 8TH JUNE

Today’s golf is at Carne. Rated at number 12 in Ireland, Carne Golf Links is arguably the most spectacular links course in Ireland - raw and untamed, with increased drama as the holes weave their way through the awe inspiring corners of the dune system.

In recent years the likes of No Laying Up and Tom Coyne have discovered Carne and brought it to the attention of the wider golfing world. All those who visit are awed by the scale of the course.

After the round we will have a bite to eat at the golf course before heading back to the hotel for an evening of leisure. You may wish to visit McDonnell’s, one of the most renowned pubs in Erris, and has been named by the locals as The Lobster Pot – once you get in, there’s no getting out!

This is a unique place because it is also a national bus stop and an undertaker. Regular live music gigs, a roaring turf fire and great craic with Pádraig (one of the owners) – a very popular spot!

TUESDAY 9TH JUNE

We will check out of the hotel this morning and drive to Enniscrone for today’s golf - another spectacular dune course.

Following the round we will head to Sligo and the Glasshouse Hotel - our base for the next three nights and enjoy another group meal.

WEDNESDAY 10TH JUNE

It’s a short drive this morning to Strandhill. Strandhill Golf Club is a beautiful 18 hole links golf course situated on Ireland’s Atlantic coast in Strandhill, Sligo. The course boasts stunning views of the surrounding countryside and ocean with Knocknarea mountain providing the back drop.

We will enjoy another group meal this evening in Sligo

THURSDAY 11TH JUNE

For our last day in Sligo we will play the number one course in the area - County Sligo, also known as Rosses Point. It’s a strategic links with dramatic undulations, raised plateau greens, run-offs, high ground, low ground, cliffs, challenging bunkering, burns and dunes.

FRIDAY 12TH JUNE

It’s an early checkout this morning and we will drive north to Narin & Portnoo. It may not be as well known as some other Irish courses but it fully deserves the plaudits it receives and its high ranking. The course winds its way out to the coast and then you have one great view after another. It's an exhilarating place to play golf.

The course was recently renovated by Gill Hanse which means this is now a must play when travelling through this part of the country.

After lunch we will continue to Cruit Island - a course unlike any other you will play. It's a short nine hole courses which looks innocuous on the scorecard. However you will soon discover it's a riot of quirk!

After the round we will head to Letterkenny where we will be staying at the Radisson Blu. We’ll grab a bite to eat when we arrive and have the chance to explore the town.

SATURDAY 13TH JUNE

We will enjoy our final round at one of the best new courses anywhere in the world - St Patrick’s Links at Rosapenna. Tom Doak was given an ambitious objective of St Patrick's Links at Rosapenna - to build a top 100 golf course. Amazingly, he did just that and the course immediately debuted at number 55 in the world and has now broken into the top 50.

The course is just draped on the land, as it traverses some of the best duneland you will ever see. An absolute masterpiece.

After the round we will head to Dublin where we will stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel

This evening we will enjoy a last meal together and we will crown the champion golfer!

WHO IS A UKGOLFGUY TRIP AIMED AT?

It's a very broad church!! Basically if you love playing great golf courses and exploring new places I’m pretty sure you will have a great time.

Often singles come along - you may find your friends aren't quite as passionate as you to discover new courses and this is a great way to meet like-minded souls.

Groups of friends do come too and that's great - the only thing I ask is that you are prepared to break your group up sometimes to play with others on the trip so we can mix things up a bit. But don't worry, I'll make sure you get to play with your travelling companions plenty too.

I run a few little competitions over the course of the trip but they are just for fun really - the focus here is on the courses and camaraderie rather than winning a trophy. If you'd rather not take part in that element, that's absolutely fine too.

So wherever you come from, whatever your golf is like - the most important thing is that you play at a good pace with a smile on your face wherever possible!

FEEDBACK FROM PREVIOUS TRIPS

Really enjoyed the trip David put together to Melbourne and the surrounding areas. He put together a great itinerary, had great supporting apps to follow along and was on top of every detail. Would definitely love to travel with David in the future!

It was a group of golfers who didn’t know one another. We had an absolute blast. David’s attention to every detail is superb. The courses in Melbourne and Tasmania were awesome to the say the least. I will go on another trip with UK Golf Guy and Outpost Overseas

David ran an amazing trip. A few highlights on organisation I'd call out: - you had everything organised and it ran like clockwork - I really liked how you mixed us up so we played with different people throughout the trip - you gave us just the right amount of information at the right time leading up to and during the trip - a nice balance of meals together and evenings free to do our own thing. - good choice of accommodation throughout the trip I had a wonderful time, and really enjoyed the overall experience.
