Boat of Garten Golf Course Review

Boat of Garten is one of the best known hidden gems in Scotland! It is situated just off the main road from the south of Inverness near the resort town of Aviemore. The Cairngorms mountains and the Spey river make for a spectacular setting and there is a real feeling of tranquillity here.

The course (designed by James Braid) is a 5,900 yard par 70 and this definitely isn't a course where you need to have brute power to enjoy. Rather accuracy is what is called for as bushes, trees and rough can all come into play if you stray too far from the fast rolling fairways.

If I'm being really honest the course didn't quite engage me as much as I had expected. It was perfectly pleasant but there were few holes which had any real wow factor, more a series of pleasing holes which were never too taxing.

BOOKING THE COURSE

It's very easy to book Boat of Garten online here. Green fees are from £40 early in the morning or late afternoon up to £80. The club is really friendly so it's worth staying for a drink and a bite to eat afterwards and having a chat with some of the locals!

Prices accurate as of July 2023

TOUR TIPS

Boat of Garten is a perfect stop on the way up to the great courses of Castle Stuart, Royal Dornoch and Nairn. It's within 40 minutes of Inverness which is a perfect base for all the region has to offer but the town of Aviemore close by would be a fine place to stay on the way up.
